Quantities shown are widely used sa' equivalents — scholars differ on exact weights (Hanafi: half sa' of wheat; others: one full sa'). When in doubt, use the higher figure and consult a qualified scholar. Pay before the Eid prayer.

How fitrana works

Sadaqah al-Fitr is paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer — one sa' of the local staple food per person, or its monetary value, so that the poor can celebrate Eid too. The head of household pays for every dependent.

The staple varies by country and culture: wheat across South Asia, dates in the Gulf, rice in Southeast Asia, corn in parts of Africa. Enter your local market price per kg above for an accurate figure.

Frequently asked questions

What is Sadaqah al-Fitr?

Sadaqah al-Fitr (Fitrana) is a charitable donation given before the Eid al-Fitr prayer — one sa' of staple food (or its monetary value) per person, so the poor can also enjoy Eid.

How much is fitrana per person?

One sa' of staple food per person — commonly about 2.5 kg of wheat, or 2.5–3.5 kg of dates, barley or raisins. Scholars differ on exact weights; this calculator uses widely-used equivalents.

When should fitrana be paid?

Before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. Many pay it in the last days of Ramadan so it reaches the poor in time for Eid.

Who pays fitrana?

The head of the household pays on behalf of every dependent — spouse, children, and others under their care — one sa' per person.
